Greyhounds make wonderful pets. They are gentle, loving, endearing and are renowned as being lounge lizards. At Wingham and Valley Vets, for many years now, we have been offering a 20% discount off professional fees/services, for retired greyhounds who have been adopted as pets. This is to encourage and support the various greyhound rehoming programs available to the general public, and to help support the wider adoption of this beautiful dog breed.
Occasionally we see greyhounds afflicted by a foot condition known as a 'corn'. A corn is a hard, thickened area of foot / digit pad tissue. It causes severe lameness (limping) and pain, especially on hard walking surfaces.
The best treatment option for corns is a surgery called superficial digital tendonectomy (aka tenotomy). We have been performing this surgery at Wingham and Valley Vets for over 10 years, and are very comfortable with the technique. It is a very successful surgery and yields excellent cosmetic and functional outcomes.
If your grey is lame (limping), contact us to book an appointment to see one of our friendly vets. They can examine the foot and see if your beloved greyhound has a corn, and provide advice from there. We would love to meet you and your beautiful greyhound!
