Saying goodbye to a beloved pet is one of the most challenging moments for any pet owner. Our goal is to make this transition as gentle and peaceful as possible by offering at-home euthanasia, allowing your pet to remain in a familiar, comfortable environment surrounded by loved ones.
Alternatively, some pet owners may prefer to bring their family member to our hospital for euthanasia. We have a dedicated spacious and quiet euthanasia room, where owners can grieve and spend time saying goodbye to their pet in comfort and privacy.
How you say goodbye to your beloved family member is a deeply personal choice and we are here to support you and to ensure their passing is gentle and peaceful, either at home or in our hospital.
We aim to provide a calm and compassionate experience, and we are here to support you with any questions or special requests during this difficult time.
Often owners feel their pet will be more relaxed and at ease in the comfort of their own home, in familiar surroundings.
At-home Euthanasia is often more suitable for pets that become anxious travelling by car or visiting the Veterinary Hospital. Additionally, many owners themselves feel more comfortable grieving in the privacy of their own home and we offer a gentle, professional home-visit Euthanasia service that supports this choice.
Here’s what to expect with our at-home euthanasia services:
We create a quiet, respectful atmosphere during the visit, with careful attention to keeping your pet as calm and comfortable as possible. You are welcome to choose the location in your home that feels right for you and your pet.
In most cases, to ease any anxiety or discomfort your pet will receive a sedative medication to help them feel relaxed and at peace. If your pet is particularly anxious or stressed by examinations or handling we would recommend they receive an oral anxiety-relieving medication prior to the Euthanasia visit, to ensure that they are as calm and relaxed as possible, as this helps greatly to ensure the process is smooth and peaceful.
After your pet has passed, we provide options for aftercare, including respectful transport and cremation services if needed. Our team is here to support you in any decisions regarding your pet’s final arrangements.
For pets requiring end of life or palliative care, we offer professional and caring in-home and in-clinic palliative care consultations to help manage symptoms, relieve pain, and ensure your pet’s comfort during the final stages of their life. Our Veterinarians have undertaken further study in the area of palliative care and multimodal pain management, so you can be assured you will be receiving the most up to date and effective palliative care plan for your beloved family member.
We work closely with you to provide the best possible quality of life for your pet, to ensure their final months are dignified and pain-free, with as many happy memories as possible for the family they leave behind.
“I consider euthanasia to be the final gift we give our beloved animal companions when their time to depart with dignity arrives, and it is important to me that their farewell, to the fullest extent possible, is free of stress or pain. I am deeply grateful to Wingham and Valley Vets for the in-home euthanasia service they offer, which has enabled my animals and I to say farewell in the familiar comfort of home. In every way, through the whole process, the Wingham and Valley Vets team have been exceptional. From the compassionate discussion as the decision to say farewell is made, to arranging the date and time, and explaining the practicalities of the process, everything has been done with understanding and respect for both my animals and I. Each of the vets who have come to tend to my animals’ needs have shown the greatest of care - they have been calm, steady, patient and unhurried, and deeply kind and compassionate. It has made a world of difference at a difficult time, and I count myself fortunate to be a client of this clinic.”
At Wingham & Valley Vets, we understand that end-of-life care is deeply personal. We are here to provide a compassionate and respectful service, allowing you to say goodbye in a way that feels right for you and your pet.
