Congratulations Dr. Anna Gourley - setting high standards in Cattle & Dairy Medicine!

We already know Dr. Anna is an excellent Dairy Cattle veterinarian, bringing expertise and
experience to cattle farmers across the Manning Valley. But now we have official confirmation! We are thrilled to announce the news that our multi-talented Dr. Anna has passed her examinations in Dairy Medicine, to become awarded the title of Member of the Australian and New Zealand College of Veterinary Scientists (MANZCVS).

We are very proud of you Anna. It is a testament to your hard work and dedication, and ongoing passion for Dairy and Cattle Medicine. This follows on from Anna receiving her Masters degree, which covered a broad range of veterinary subjects, and in which her major project was relating to Calf health, specifically Lactic Acidosis in dairy calves. She is quite the high achiever and should be extremely proud of her efforts.

The exams were comprised of written and oral sections, and Anna was grilled by renowned

specialists in the field. After 18 months of dedicated study leading up to the exams (and many years of ongoing learning by working in the field), Anna has proven herself as having a high degree of knowledge in this field of Veterinary Medicine.

The College who awarded the degree states the following about achieving Membership status:

- Membership of the College recognises knowledge in an area of interest and reflects the value of continuing education.

- The increased confidence and ability to provide high quality veterinary services provides

practice recognition, adding value to professional services.

Dr. Anna is our lead cattle veterinarian, and also enjoys the challenge of treating all species great and small – dogs, cats, horses, alpacas, you name it!

Dr. Anna is leading the way within the practice as we offer a growing number of services for cattle clients:

- Accredited BULLCHECK (Veterinary Bull Breeding Soundness Evaluations) aka “Bull Testing” for dairy and beef clients. This is a great idea pre-sale; as well as before use on the farm each season.

- Accredited “Preg Check” (pregnancy diagnosis) service, offering manual and ultrasound

preg testing. This includes foetal ageing to predict calving and dry-off dates.

- Calf Medicine and Health – treatments and consultancy advice on calf health and

welfare. Dr. Anna completed previous study in this field – her Masters project was on
the topic of calf acidosis – a significant health problem in sick calves who have scours and diarrhoea.
- Milk Quality and Mastitis issue investigations. This is an area of interest of Dr. Anna, and
one of our other vets also has accreditation through Dairy Australia to perform Milk
Quality and Mastitis investigations (previously called Countdown Downunder
investigations)
- Herd health and fertility programs, to help get your herd in-calf quicker.
- Obstetric / Calving problems
- Artificial insemination programs including synchrony and fixed time AI (beef and dairy).
We can store semen on-site for your upcoming breeding program and transport it to
your farm when needed. AI (artificial insemination) can save you the hassle and expense
of keeping/replacing bulls on your property.
- Lameness treatment and prevention
- Calf disbudding using sedation, local anaesthesia and additional pain relief to maximise
welfare and minimise disruptions to calf growth and performance
- Consultancy services for calf and cow health.
